Collaboration

Art has the power to amplify voices. The Community Art Studio is grounded in collaboration鈥攁 shared experience between the artist and the community, where ideas are exchanged, connections are made and stories are told. Working with local groups, organizations and individuals provides the opportunity to create meaningful works of visual art that reflect the true spirit of the people it represents.

The goal of the Community Art Studio is to bring together individuals from all backgrounds, those who may not have traditional access to artistic opportunities, those with important messages to communicate, and those interested in contributing to a collective, community effort. We focus on understanding the community's needs and helping them express their ideas through visual art. Our role is to provide the necessary skills, resources, and support to help transform these ideas into tangible works of art.

Shared Dialogue

Great art begins with dialogue. Each project is the direct result of open, honest, and dynamic conversations with the people it represents. By integrating the community鈥檚 insights, ideas, and stories, we craft artwork that is as unique as the group itself.

Why Community Engagement Matters in Public Art

The Greater Reading area is filled with talented artists who are making the city more vibrant through the creation of public art. The Collaborative Art Studio is here to complement those individual artistic efforts by inviting everyone鈥攔esidents, organizations, and schools鈥攖o get involved in these public art projects. We support local artists by helping them understand and embrace the collaborative mural process, equipping them with the tools, techniques and materials needed to work alongside communities.

鈥滻 was inspired hearing how Mr. Miller works with the artist to bring a mural to fruition, how the art is enlarged and either painted directly on the wall of a building or drawn on a material that can be attached to a building, and then painted by community members that are students of a variety of ages or adults from various walks of life.鈥 鈥 Jane Koelble, volunteer painter
