Sigma Tau Delta, Kappa Pi Chapter

Sigma Tau Delta is the International English Honor Society. The purposes of this Society are literary and educational. The Society strives to confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies. Members must exhibit high standards of academic excellence and serve society by fostering literacy.

For the past 15 years, the Kappa Pi Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta has been recognized nationally as a "most active chapter" and asked to present a display of its activities at the annual international convention.  Recently at conventions in Portland, OR, Savannah, GA, and Albuquerque, NM, Alvernia students have presented their scholarly and creative work, participated on panels, competed successfully in dry t-shirt design, theatrical skits and bad poetry competitions, won over $4,750 in scholarships and awards (2006, 2007), won the Outstanding Chapter award (2006), and won the Outstanding Sponsor award (2008), won the Better World Books Service Award (2009, 2010), and acted as host chapter for the national convention in St. Louis, MO (2010).

On campus, the Kappa Pi chapter runs a book drive in partnership with Better World Books which provides books for Africa; assists with Christmas on Campus and Spring Fling; participates in the Edible Book Festival, provides the editors for Zephyrus, the college literary arts journal; and hosts a year-end student/faculty Induction picnic. With book drives and other fundraisers, trips to poetry readings, regional conference participation, and other activities, the Kappa Pi Chapter offers students both opportunities for fun and recognition for academic excellence.
